The term 'Mirrorlogic' occurred to me in back in 1993 when I was studying the Law of Action and Reaction, otherwise known as the Law of Equlibrium.
It states that "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction."
If you stand on a skateboard and try to jump away from it as far as you can, the inevitbale reaction will likely land you on your bum.
Simple mechanics.
Easy to predict the reaction.
But what of more subtle actions ?
Who could predict the result arising from, say, getting up every morning to watch the sun rise and giving gratitude for the day ?
What does "opposite" even *mean* in this case ?
Tricky.
In between those extremes are a whole bunch of very interesting phenomena.
One of those is the nature of careless speech to "backfire" :-)
With regularity we see that when someone's ego gets over-inflated, they just have to verbalise their smug boasts and WHAM! - it triggers exactly the opposite.
"Even God couldn't sink this ship" - a deckhand said before the launch of the Titanic
(I don't blame God for showing this man the error of his ways - If I were God, I wouldn't be able to resist it either! ;-)
"Better to keep one's mouth shut and be thought a fool, rather than open it and remove all doubt"
I'm sure many examples of this come to mind...
Examples of MirrorLogic;
The less you do, the harder it gets.
The more you look, the less you see.
Any excess is ok, as long as it is done in moderation.
In the end, the answer is alway found to have been in the approach.
The appearance of a shadow may just mean there is a light shining nearby.
The quickest way of winning a thing is to give up even the desire for that thing.
If you put too much effort into becoming famous, you may end up needing to go around wearing sunglasses to avoid being recognised.
He who knows does not speak, he who speaks does not know.
An empty petrol drum is far more expolosive than a full one.
The body grows old as the soul grows young. That is the comedy and tragedy of life.
MIRROR-logic "axioms" as I like to think of them, are usually arrived at through the process of *reflection*, although with practice, one can begin to make reliable predictions about future consequences and rewards resulting from certain types of actions.
For instance, last year when I decided to find the perfect job, I searched for eight months, travelling all over the country, my flights, accomodation and travelling costs all paid for by various companies seeking to employ me because I disregarded the advice from resume "experts" who said
"no-one wants to read more than a two page resume, in fact, one page is best".
Well, I thought, if *I* was going to employ someone and they handed me a generic single page black and white Word resume, I would not regard them as having ANY initiative, enthusiasm or even interest in the position I was offering, thus making for a very poor employee.
So I created a 26-page resume about myself, replete with examples of my work, detailed lists of my experience, photos of momentous events and samples of publications and scientific papers I had written.
It had EVERYTHING about me anyone would want to know if they were serious about getting the right person.
Again, it was Mirrorlogic (ML) -
"Look at what everyone else does and DON"T DO *THAT"
I had job offers coming out of my ears, but do you think I could find the right job ? - one I REALLY enjoyed ?
Not until the 9th month.
Just at the time where I was feeling most like it was never going to happen.
ML: The time when you are most feeling like giving up is usually JUST before you succees.
Then suddenly I found myself with not one but THREE excellent choices, presented in a row.
I accepted the first job, as lecturer of Mirrorlogic in an institute of technology in a southern state.
Before I could even return the acceptance letter, I was offered another one as Editor for a technical magazine (wherein I could have REALLY gone to town).
Two days after I started there, I was given another offer for a much nicer position with far more pay as a technology writer and member of the steering committee for the country's first Low Emissions Combustion Research Facility.
And this place was just a few kilometres away.
I didn't even know the company existed.
Right on my dorstep! - The whole time!
Here was me galavanding all around the countryside, *trying* to land that perfect job.
Failing miserably.
If I would have had even a peanuts worth of faith, I would have known that the Universe was going to give me what I asked for, put it out of my mind, stopped INTERFERING with the process and done more preparation for when the job came.
ML: "Sometimes the quickest way of finding something is to stop looking for it"
Anyway, that was a year ago.
Since then, things have changed quite a bit and for the better still.
All the matters pertaining to mere "existence" have now fallen below the threshold of consciousness.
Mirrorlogic is often brings things to light that are quite thought provoking and/or humorous;
"Look at what is troubling you and you will only find things you shouldn't be doing"
"There is nothing like the feeling of discovering that your partner's wickedness exceeds even your own"
"Once I thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken"
"If you set out to fail and succeed, have you failed or succeeded ?"
"Man is a curious creatures that often become upset by its own reason"
"Think of the various ways you might interpret someone "going quiet" on you. If silence can be misinterpreted in so many ways, what about words themselves ?!"
So it may be asked;
"What IS the best course of action for a being in a universe in which every action results in an equal and opposite reaction ?"
That action is LOVE.
"Mirrorlogic" has been a valuable tool for me in understanding the Universe's "ways".
Look at your own life and you will see many examples of 'Mirrorlogic' type events and situations.
Stop burning yourself out learning by your mistakes and benefit from the mistakes of others so that their suffering was not in vain.
Lastly, the most important Mirrorlogic axiom:
"You do not need to go looking for Love when that is where you are coming from"
