Hi everyone,
As you all know, I am currently trying to lose weight and get healthier. I have signed up for a coaching program and am currently getting good results from it.
My mom, who saw the great results that I'm getting, also wanted to jump on the bandwagon. She started on the program as well but only managed to stick to it for about two weeks before giving up.
I think the problem here is that mom, although she has the intention to lose weight, didn't approach the whole thing with the correct mindset. She wanted to lose weight, but she wasn't prepared for all the changes that it will entail to her lifestyle, however minor they may be.
That's the reason why a lot of people quit. Let's face it, not everybody can go on a diet. It takes a lot of discipline and a willingness to make changes to our lifestyle to succeed. Many people go on a diet thinking that if they want it bad enough, they will find a way to cope, somehow.
That may be true to some extent. But if they have the wrong mindset, their diet is doomed to fail even before it begins.
I think this also applies to a lot of things in life, not just to dieting.
Think of it like playing a game of football. If your team goes in with the mindset of not losing then you will only be playing a defensive game. You will try your best to prevent the other team from scoring a goal. Other than that, you will not do anything to score a few goals for your own team.
But if your team goes in with the mindset of winning, then you can be sure that you will be seizing every opportunity to score for your team. You will be spending a lot of your time on your opponent's goal area instead of your own.
I think this can be clearly seen during the World Cup match between England and Portugal a few years ago. It was very clear to me that all England wanted to do was prevent Portugal from scoring. Majority of the match was centered on England's goal area because the Portugese were in it to win and England just wanted to prevent them from winning.
When England has the opportunity to score, only a splinter of the players will be pushing the ball towards the Portugese's goal. With no reinforcement, the Portugese manage to steal ball from them and resume their attack on England's defense.
It is said that the path to achieving any goal starts in the mind. If the battle has been lost in mind then the war has been lost.
Just a little something to share for today. I hope I managed to give you all something to think about ;)
